TURBT (Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor)

TURBT is an endoscopic (scarless) procedure used for the diagnosis and removal of bladder tumors. The tumor is removed through the natural urine passage using a special instrument, and the tissue is sent for biopsy to confirm the type and stage.

TURBT Bladder Tumor Surgery

When is TURBT Needed?

TURBT is advised when a bladder tumor is suspected on ultrasound/CT scan or seen on cystoscopy, or when symptoms suggest a bladder growth that requires removal and biopsy.

Blood in Urine

Painless blood in urine (visible or microscopic) is a common warning sign.

Frequent Urination

Increased urgency, frequency, or burning sensation during urination.

Urine Blockage

Clots or tumor may cause difficulty passing urine or retention.

Tumor Seen on Scan

Growth detected on ultrasound/CT or confirmed by cystoscopy.

How TURBT Procedure is Performed

TURBT is performed under anesthesia. A special instrument is passed through the urine passage to the bladder. The tumor is removed carefully and sent for biopsy to confirm diagnosis and guide further treatment.

Step 01

Scope Entry

A resectoscope is inserted through urine passage into the bladder.

Step 02

Tumor Visualization

The tumor is identified clearly using endoscopic camera guidance.

Step 03

Tumor Resection

Tumor is removed safely and bleeding is controlled carefully.

Step 04

Biopsy & Follow-up

Tissue is sent for biopsy and further treatment is planned accordingly.

Benefits of TURBT

TURBT is the most important first step in bladder tumor management as it removes the tumor and confirms diagnosis.

  • Scarless removal through urine passage

  • Accurate diagnosis with biopsy confirmation

  • Early treatment improves outcomes

  • Short recovery and quick discharge

Recovery After TURBT

Hospital Stay

Short stay is common depending on bleeding and catheter requirement.

Back to Routine

Most patients return to routine gradually as advised by the doctor.

Hydration & Care

Adequate fluids and follow-up help in smooth healing and reduce irritation.
